Networking is KING!

Networking means everything.
You can have the best-looking reel, a polished IMDb page, and a resume that turns heads, but without the right relationships, it will be very difficult to secure consistent work.
I’ve booked clients who were missing some of the elements I’ve mentioned, but their networking was so strong that a phone call was enough. In some cases, just their name carried weight. That’s the power of relationships.
You need to think of yourself as a brand. And not every brand fits every consumer. So I ask you: who do you want to be working with? And just as importantly: who have you been working with?
Networking is a skill. It requires persistence and consistency. It requires self-evaluation, who is in your rolodex? Are you building relationships with people who are scaling and growing? Betting on people with long term potential is smart. But if you want to lock in the job for tomorrow, you also need to invest in people who are in growth mode now.
Diversity in your network matters. I can’t tell you how often I’ve heard that a longtime producer or DP suddenly moved out of state or out of the country. If your circle is too small, your opportunities shrink with it.
Networking ultimately comes down to likability and trust. It’s not easy to break into new groups. It’s uncomfortable. But if you’re willing to step into that discomfort and be laser-focused, you will grow.
Doing the same thing and expecting different results only slows the bleeding.
These are conversations that require planning and accepting that failure is part of the process. From consistency comes trust. From trust comes opportunity.
